Daily Routine

This is one example of how a day in the nursery might look; actual times & activities may vary.

9.00 – 9.30 FREE PLAYChildren arrive and are encouraged to identify their name and post it in their key group box. They then have the opportunity to self select their chosen activity.
9.30 – 9.45 SMALL GROUP TIMEThis is a time when children separate into age appropriate small groups and partake in an adult led planned activity.
9.45 – 10.10 FREEPLAY, OUTDOOR/FUNROOMChildren are given the opportunity to choose when and what they would like to play with and where they would like to play making use of a free flow environment.
10.10 – 10.20 TIDY UP TIMEChildren tidy away their activities along with a tidy up song. Children are encouraged to wipe the table for snack time.
10.20 – 10.30 SNACK TIMEChildren self select what they would like from a variety of healthy eating options.
10.30 – 10.45 FREE PLAYChildren are free choose an activity from the self selection drawers and cupboards.
10.45 – 11.00 ADULT LED ACTIVITY/FOCUS TEACHINGChildren are separated into age and stage small groups for a planned activity.
11.00 – 11.30 OUTDOOR PLAY/FUN ROOMChildren play outside using a ride range of resources. Planned activities are also carried out such as balancing, running, climbing and games such as “What’s the time Mr Wolf”.
11.30 – 11.45 TIDY UP TIMEThis is a time when children and staff work together to put away all the toys and equipment used during the session which gives children responsibility in looking after the resources.
11.45 – 12.00 MUSIC/STORY TIMEChildren have the opportunity to sing nursery rhymes and experiment with a range of musical instruments. Children take turns to select a book for a member of staff to read. Children can choose a book they would like to look at themselves if they would prefer to.
12.00 – 13.00 LUNCHChildren are encouraged to independently get their lunch boxes from the trolley. Staff sit and assist children when required. Children are encouraged to put their lunch boxes back on the trolley when they have finished. Children are allowed to leave the tables when they have finished and self select a quiet activity. A quiet area is set up for children to sleep should they require, sleeping bags and soft foam mats are provided by us.
13.00 – 13.15 REGISTERThe afternoon register is taken along with any discussion.
13.15 – 14.45 A repeat of the morning activities. These are done in a different order providing different learning opportunities.
14.45 – 15.00 STORY TIME AND GETTING READY TO GO HOMEThe children wind down for a story and collect any work they wish to take home.
